Topics and Sub-themes
The 6th Science Centre World Congress will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, in September 2011. The theme is 'Science Across Cultures'.
The theme will encourage reconciliation between different cultures and a greater appreciation of the role that science centres can play in highlighting each culture's unique contributions to science, technology and science education.
The following topics will be explored:
- How can science centres reflect the universality of science?
- How have different cultures, past and present, contributed to the development of modern science, technology and science education?
- How should science centres reflect the contributions made by scholars in the developing world?
- How can science centres showcase indigenous knowledge systems?
- How science centres should take into account the differences and similarities between cultures when designing and implementing science education programmes
The 6SCWC will focus on the following four cross-cutting sub-themes:
- Science as part of culture
- Building communities through science: the role of science centres
- Recognising the multi-cultural roots of science and technology
- The value of Indigenous Knowledge Systems
